PDHPE
Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Students focus on active participation in a broad range of movement contexts to develop movement skills and enhance performance. They develop confidence and competence to engage in physical activity both now and into the future. Students develop an understanding of movement concepts and the features of movement composition as they engage in a variety of planned and improvised movement experiences. They create and compose movements to achieve specific purposes and performance goals. Through movement experiences students also develop self-management and interpersonal skills to support them to strive for enhanced performance and participation in a lifetime of physical activity.
Students also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills important for building respectful relationships, enhancing personal strengths and exploring personal identity to promote the safety, health and wellbeing of themselves and others. They develop skills and strategies to manage change, challenges, power, abuse, violence and learn how to protect themselves and others in a range of situations. Learning in this subject will empower students to make healthy and safe choices and take action to promote the safety, health and wellbeing of themselves and their communities. They develop skills to take positive action regarding consent, safety, health and wellbeing in a range of offline and online environments. Students engage with a range of health issues and assess strategies to keep themselves and others safe, healthy and active.
The PD/H/PE Department provides learning experiences for students that reflect a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, improving individual performances, increasing self-esteem and resilience, and application toward the CHS sporting traditions of the school.
In Years 7-10, the practical component of PD/H/PE emphasises fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, teamwork and self-management skills. The theoretical component reinforces the healthy decision making process through health literacy, and the development of personal awareness, communication, interpersonal relationships and drug education.
In Years 11 and 12 the PD/H/PE courses Health and Movement Science and Community and Family Studies are offered to those students with an interest in current personal and community issues surrounding health and physical activity in Australia. Sport, Lifestyle, and Recreation provides students with a wide range of practical experiences and qualifications for employment in the health and fitness industry. Exploring Early Childhood provides senior students with the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of parenting and early childhood education.
