Science

Studying Science will help students gain a greater understanding of the physical and natural processes within the world in which they live. Students gain the necessary skills to study Science at a senior level through developing scientific thinking and problem-solving strategies. Many students who have undertaken studies in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Science, Agriculture, Investigating Science and Extension Science have achieved outstanding course results and ATARs. This has allowed them to gain access to excellent university courses and successful careers in scientific fields.

Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.

Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:

In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.

Science provides a Learning Framework through which students learn about science, it's history, nature and practice, applications, implications for society and environment, current issues, research and development.

Students also learn about theories, laws and structures related to the physical world, matter, the living world and Earth and space. Interactions within the physical world are also studied.

Students develop skills in working scientifically and will develop positive values and attitudes.

In  Stage 6  the following courses are offered (in alphabetical order): Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Martine Studies, Physics and Senior Science.
