Technical and Applied Science (TAS)
Over the course of Year 7 and 8, students will rotate through the many subject areas found in the TAS Faculty. They will take part in exciting lessons in cooking, woodwork, metalwork, electronics, computers, textiles and more. Our aim is for our students to experience as much “hands on” learning as possible, whilst integrating a range of technology. The school is fortunate to be well resources with cutting edge CAD software, a CNC plasma cutter, CNC router, Lego robotics, laser cutter/engraver, dye sublimation printer, embroidery machines and several 3D Printers allowing us to deliver STEM based content.
Technological and applied studies (TAS) is mandatory for all students in Year 7 and 8. Students can also select from a range of elective TAS subjects.
In TAS, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills through a design and production process using a range of tools, materials and techniques in theory and practical lessons.
The continuum of technology learning is:
- mandated from Kindergarten to Year 8 through Science and Technology K-6 and Technology Mandatory Years 7-8 syllabuses
- based on students becoming increasingly sophisticated in their ability to apply knowledge, skills and understanding to design and produce solutions
- optional for student specialisation in high school through a range of syllabuses addressing particular technologies and aspects of design.
The TAS faculty offers students a wide range of experiences related to the application of various technologies in today's society. Programs of study allow students to progress from Technology Mandatory in years 7 & 8 where they are given a taste of a wide range of areas, through to the elective subjects in stages five and six. The subjects that we offer are as follows.
Stage 4: Technology Mandatory
Students are rotated each semester through a range of experiences from food to wood and metal work to agriculture, textiles, electronics and more.
Stage 5: Students choose three elective subjects from the following set of subjects. They study these areas for two years.
