What year did you graduate VHS?
Graduated Vincentia 1999
Where are you working now and in what role?
After 20 plus years in the hospitality industry I am now teaching Hospitality at Vincentia High School
What do you love about your job?
I love that I can pass on my vast industry knowledge to students and give them an idea of real-world scenarios. I love teaching a range of subjects and that my day is varied. I also love running the school café and giving students the opportunity to participate in a functioning business that they can take ownership of.
Did anyone at VHS inspire you to follow your chosen career path?
Miss Boyce was my senior hospitality teacher, she was always the most dedicated teacher I had. She always inspired students to push harder, do better and always set high standards.
Did you have many challenges to get to where you are now?
Yes, it was a great challenge to become a teacher. It was resuming study after fifteen years without doing any, raising a young and growing family, working full time and battling poor internet amongst a number of other things. It has however reaffirmed that hard work and dedication does pay off and that if you apply yourself you can achieve.
Do you have any advice for our current students?
For most people nothing comes easily and the only failure is to not try in life. My grandfather always said how important it is to never stop learning.
