NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
The Education Act 1990 states ‘in every government school, time is to be allowed for the religious education of children of any religious persuasion’. Special education in ethics (SEE) can be offered as a secular alternative to special religious education (SRE). SEE is offered at some primary schools only.
Vincentia High School offers Special Religious Education (SRE) as a part of your child’s timetabled lessons. The class is termed ‘Scripture’. Scripture is delivered to students in Years 7-8 once a fortnight.
The school offers the following SRE class:
Combined Christian SRE
On enrolment, parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the school in writing.
Students who elect not to attend Scripture are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.
Combined Christian SRE
Our school offers Combined Christian SRE with a teacher from ‘THREE16 Shoalhaven’. This organisation represents 30+ local Christian churches and employs SRE teachers to work in Shoalhaven high schools.
Our Scripture teacher is authorised and accredited by the Approved Provider C3 Church. Our teacher also uses the approved 7-10 curriculum Bible Explored.
A link to the scope and sequence of the Bible Explored curriculum can be found at this website: three16.org.au
The Bible Explored curriculum is based on the good news about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of Christian life and culture.
Our teacher delivers Combined Christian SRE with students from a number of denominations being taught as one class.
