My Story Matters was a personal history project involving residents from IRT ST Georges Basin.

Students from Vincentia High School recently presented digital biographies of seven residents from St George's Basin's Illawarra Retirement Trust village. The My Story Matters project involved students visiting the residents on a weekly basis over a ten week period questioning them on their lives. Precious photos relevant to their stories were also supplied by the residents and all of this collected information was then converted into power point presentations by the students. The life stories were presented to the residents in the company of family and friends on Thursday 27thJuly.

This inter-generational program created an opportunity for students to enhance their communication skills, IT skills and improve their public speaking ability. Importantly it has helped the students gain insight into another era which they may otherwise not have been exposed to in such a meaningful context.

The participating residents are now looking forward to visiting the students at Vincentia High School for a morning tea in the near future.
