Kade is a finalist in the NSW Training Awards

Kade King

Congratulations to Year 12 student Kade King who is a finalist in the 2021 Illawarra and South East NSW Regional Training Awards. Kade was nominated by his careers advisor Mrs Maree McNeil because of the commitment he has given to his studies and the dedication to his Student Based Apprenticeship & Training (SBAT). Kade started at Nicolstoke Farm in Year 9 and has developed an extremely valued relationship with his workplace sponsors, Steve and Susan Nicholas. Kade said that the quality of the training he received at the farm has been life changing and firmly cemented his passion for working with cattle long term.

Kade chose his VET course of Certificate 11 in Animal Studies offered at the Nowra TAFE Campus because it aligned with the work he is currently doing at Nicolstoke Farm working with cattle. “By undertaking the SBAT program I have gained both practical and theoretical components of being a Farm Manger. This has fuelled my passion to go to Charles Sturt University next year in order to study Veterinary Science. Ultimately for my career I would like to continue working with large animals, especially cattle.”

Due to his success in the 2020 South Coast Beef School Steer Spectacular he was asked to take on a leadership role, mentoring students from the Agricultural course at Ulladulla High School. This role will involve being a mentor to the students on all things related to raising steers for show, providing support and advice and meeting with them regularly in order to provide practical assessment of their progress.

Kade is currently a leader at the Vincentia High School Clontarf Academy which involves being a positive role model for other students and attending different extracurricular activities.

When asked why he thinks skills training is important for Australia’s future, Kade said: “It allows individuals to specialise in their respective chosen fields of study in order to further the advancement of knowledge, developments in technology, contribute to high employment rates and a diverse workforce.”

Kade will attend the awards night in Wollongong on Friday 25 June 2021. Good luck Kade we are extremely proud of your achievements and look forward to following your career journey post School.
