12 May 2022
The Sea Eagle Epic took place on Monday 2 May 2022 under splendid conditions at the picturesque Moona Moona Creek . The event involved an individual triathlon swimming 300m in pristine flat ocean conditions, mountain bike riding through mud, sand, single track and on gravel road for 6km and running 2.5km on a quick flat bush course. Athletes then backed-up and displayed their sporting prowess in a team event across Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions.
The Sea Eagle Epic provided the opportunity for students to push past boundaries in fitness and engage in Vincentia High School pride and comradeship. Congratulations to Ryan Malecki and Jillian Raftery who have been training consistently over the past six months to gain a credible overall honours for first place in the individual event.
This will be the final triathlon competition for Year 12 students Eliana Macken, Eva Mackay, Bree Firmstone, Emelia Smeets, Alexandria Chatfield, Ryan Johnstone, Diesel Spiteria, Duncan Wilson, Seth Kingma, Amy Baker & Lilli Briggs.
An afternoon tea and presentation was held and our departing Year 12’s were fondly reflective about the meaning of participating at NSW All-Schools Triathlon as well as the inaugural Sea Eagle Epic over the years. Farewell speeches shone a light on the positive and special memories of their journey and the connections created with parents, students and staff were a highlight of the VHS Team’s time away.
The school wishes to acknowledge and thank the following organisations, students, parents and teachers:
Volunteer Students: Abbey Phillips, Jasmine Griggs, Ivy Brown, Ella Crowe, Izaac Clifton, Kingsley Smith and Tristen Lynch.
VHS Parents and Citizens Committee, Woolworths Marketplace; our fabulous parents Holly and Paul Macken, Oliver Macken, Craig and Nardia Luckman, Eben Sternats, Andrew Mackay, Ken Langenegger and Jason Haig and past students Charlie Luckman and Maddison Watt.
A big shout out to Mr Crossman, Mr Raftery, Ms Warren, Mr Snelling, Ms Smith and Ms Boyce for organising the Sea Eagle Epic. Their support is much appreciated in providing such opportunities in the students school journey. It is now time to clock up those extra kilometres on the mountain bike in preparation for the 2022 Coondoo Classic on the 16th June!
